Alcoholic Liver Disease - Prevent It With A Liver Cleansing Diet

Alcoholic liver disease occurs usually after years of indulging in drinking sessions with friends.

Well, it almost always starts that way. Prevent it with a liver cleansing diet.

You consume alcoholic drinks socially...during weddings, during birthdays, and on Friday nights to unwind, with friends.

Sounds familiar?

Path To Alcohol Abuse

Then gradually, you find yourself drinking alone more often than not. And before you know it, you are already on the path to alcohol abuse.

The longer you use alcohol and the more you consume, the greater the risk of getting alcoholic liver disease.

Once you drink excessively, you become malnourished. It is mainly because of poor absorption of nutrients in your intestines. Your immune system gets weak because of poor nutrition. That is why malnutrition is a major contributing factor of this particular liver disease.

3 Main Stages of Alcoholic Liver Disease Damage

  1. Fatty Liver - Your liver gets enlarged by the presence of fat deposits. Liver Function Tests give indirect measure of liver damage. At this stage, your sgpt (serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase) and sgot (serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase) levels already tend to show high values. These two enzymes usually show high values when there is liver damage.

  2. Alcoholic Hepatitis - This condition may be life-threatening. At this stage, your LFT results are also abnormal and you may develop jaundice. However, as with fatty liver, abstinence from alcohol can reverse the effects.

  3. Cirrhosis - This is the end of the line. At this stage, the damage is irreversible. The condition of your liver sucks. There are scars and liver nodules appear at this point.

Liver Biopsy

Liver biopsy is the most accurate test to ensure that alcohol is the cause of the liver damage.
